
Dog Talk Training Class Descriptions and Schedule
Puppy Headstart: For puppies 8 to 16 weeks
Research has shown that a variety of early positive experiences for puppies is the cornerstone of development for a happy, well adjusted dog. Our Puppy Headstart rotation allows you and your puppy to jump right in for maximum benefit. Your puppy will have the opportunity to play off-leash with other size and age appropriate puppies, to meet and greet lots of people, to accept handling and to be exposed to and learn to accept a wide variety of objects, sounds and stimuli. You will learn the latest techniques in “Canine Parenting” including problem prevention, teaching impulse control and bite inhibition, potty training and more.
Classes are one-hour long on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm. You may begin any week you like and continue for five weeks.
Class Requirements:
- Puppies must be between eight and 16 weeks old.
- Puppies must have had one set of vaccinations (Parvo, Parainfluenza, Hepatits and Distemper) that has been on-board for seven days.
- A Bordetalla vaccination is recommended.
- Puppies should come to class on a buckle collar or body harness with a non-retractable leash.
- Bring some soft food treats for you puppy.

Puppy Package!
Take advantage of discount pricing by signing up for Puppy Headstart class and Basic class at the same time. Package includes five weeks of Puppy Class and six weeks of Basic class. Classes can be taken consecutively or concurrently. Package participants are given first choice of class times for Basic classes.
Claass Requirements:
Basic: For dogs of all ages
Our basic classes focus on teaching foundation obedience exercises and behavior management techniques to help you enjoy your adolescent or adult dog. With our “hands-off”, positive-reinforcement methods, your dog will learn to work for what he/she wants by responding to basic obedience cues such as “Sit”, “Down”, “Wait”, “Come” “Leave It” “Drop” You will also learn to teach your dog to pay attention and walk nicely on a leash. Additionally, you will learn how to manage and resolve routine behavior issues such as jumping on people, pulling on the leash, running out of doors, stealing and mouthing.
This six week course begins with a two-hour orientation (without dogs). Weeks two thru six with dogs last one-hour each. Training manual and homework sheets are included.
Class Requirements:
- Gentle Leader or buckle collar (prong or slip collars may not be used).
- High value food treats.
- Other suggested equipment will be discusses during orientation.

PLEASE NOTE: Basic class is not suitable for dogs who are timid, fearful or do not do well around other dogs. These dogs will do best with an individually tailored training plan. Reliability Class
Whether you and your dog are just starting out or you are ready to take your training to the next level, our Reliability Class was created with your convenience in mind. A smaller group class allows for more individualized training so you and your dog can work most effectively toward your goals. From basic manners for young dogs to preparation for sports such as agility, or learning the skills needed for therapy dog or Canine Good Citizen tests, our instructors guide you through a variety of exercises tailored to meet your specific needs.
Our Reliability Class is offered on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays. You choose your start date with options for packages of 5 or 8 classes. Classes are 1 hour each. Students new to Dog Talk receive a 45 minute private consultation prior to first class. Reliability class can be repeated as many times as desired for maximum learning—it’s never the same class twice!
